The Concept

This conceptual illustration was inspired by my experience and perspective over Asian beauty trends that have affected myself and other young girls and women.

From obsessing over skin whitening creams to gifting plastic surgery certificates for high school graduates, Asian beauty trends from Japan and Korea have taken the rest of Eastern and South East Asian countries by storm. V-shaped jawlines, big eyes, and rhinoplasty have become basics to be considered beautiful nowadays.

Within this piece, I took inspo from the idolized doll-like face young women are expected to have and doll-making with the sewing needle and thread. Old and new pieces of her face are being sewed together, much like how these young women are trying merge pieces of themselves with what society considers acceptable.
